Lawn Service & Grounds Maintenance
We ask a lot from our lawns. We demand they look good to provide “curb appeal” as well as a clean, professional appearance to our homes and buildings. Improper mowing is one of the most common causes of turf problems and can be destructive when not done correctly. Since 1989 BECKS has developed strategies, procedures, and uses the best possible equipment to establish the standard for quality and service.
Our knowledgeable staff has been fully trained to properly meet all of your outdoor maintenance needs. Your lawn specialists will adjust blade heights throughout the season accordingly to the recommended lengths, and patterns are varied every week and edging services are included every other week. We will mow your lawn on a scheduled day each week, weather permitting.
Our mowing services are available during the months of March to November for both residential and commercial properties. We set ourselves apart from our competition by providing reliable, quality service. In addition, we are fully licensed, insured and have an established safety program that includes weekly meetings.
Spring and Fall Clean-Ups
After a long winter, BECKS Lawn, Landscape and Fence will clean up your property and prepare for the spring season. Spring cleanups are typically performed during the months of March and April depending on the weather. Removing winter-kill and old annuals promotes clean growing conditions and reduces the opportunity for fungus and disease to become established.
One of the first tasks of the spring season is to clean up debris left from the prior year. This generally includes leaves blown between shrubs and into corners of the property and trash blown from neighboring properties or parking areas. After the debris has been removed the lawn areas will be mowed to add the finishing touch to your spring clean-up.
The property is then trimmed and all concrete surfaces will be edged to give the property a clean fresh look for the spring season.
Fall cleanups are important to lay a foundation for a healthy landscape next season. Kansas winters are unpredictable and can be hard on turf and plants and it is important to remove all the leaves and debris from your property so disease and fungus do not develop.
Once the snow and ice begin to cover our turf and landscape, an un-raked layer of leaves can get matted down over the turf and smother it all winter long. Leaf removal in the fall helps avoid dead patches in the spring. But most importantly fall cleanups ensure your property will look its best throughout the season. We usually perform fall cleanups during the months of October, November and December – weather permitting.
Shrub Trimming
BECKS Lawn, Landscape and Fence performs summer shrub trimming from May through June, after spring growth is mostly complete. Spring-flowering shrubs are pruned within one month after they bloom to preserve flowers for the next year.
Fall shrub trimming is typically performed from September through October where shrubs will be trimmed and topped as necessary to maintain a clean appearance. Major cutting-back of shrubs is done early in the winter months or early spring. Our trimming equipment is continually sharpened and adjusted to provide plants with the best cut possible. Annuals include Begonias, Impatiens, Alyssum, Ageratum, Petunias, Marigolds, Pansies, Salvia, and many others. They are typically installed during the months of May and June. We begin installation by properly preparing the flower beds prior to installation. Often times we find that it is best to add enriched top soil and slow release fertilizer to flower beds seasonally to allow for optimum flower growth and development.
It’s important to understand that different annuals demand different environments such as shade and watering levels. Bark and Mulch Installation
We offer mulch or bark installation services that include bed preparation prior to installation. We have the following types of mulch available: double ground hardwood mulch, cedar mulch, and “colored” chip mulch in dark brown, red or black. We also offer playground safety mulch, as well as many others upon request.
